Ubud situated about an hour drive from Ngurai Rai International airport, located amidst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency. Among of Bali’s leading arts and culture centres, it has developed a large tourism industry. Ubud is internationally reputed for its visual arts and performance, as well as extraordinary arts and crafts, making it one of the most significant cultural and artistic centres in Indonesia. It’s hard to describe how pleasing Ubud is without sounding smug, but it actually is that nice.

Ubud is favourite in part today because it is the best spot in Bali to break away of the tourist mode and get off the beaten way, although far from undiscovered. Hotels are ample; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses (losmen) are easily accessible to the foreign holidaymaker. Many tourist simply base their whole stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud.

One of the great things about Ubud is that it is settled 600m above sea level, making it significantly cooler than much of Bali. A lot of people visit Ubud thinking to stay for just a day or two but end up stretching their trip, seduced by the cool climate, natural beauty and fascinating attractions.

This is a great spot to use as a base to explore the surrounding towns and villages. Neighbouring villages offer exquisite artistry such as weaving, wood-carving, shadow puppets and village crafts. The main castle is situated in the centre of Ubud, opposite the town market and village theatre where nightly traditional dance performances are held.

A private Bali Ubud villa can be anything from an intimate 1-bedroom riverside hideaway, to an exclusive, custom-built, 8-bedroom, ‘destination villa’ with a 5-star standard of service and every thinkable comfort, configured to guarantee that guests do not feel the need to go out for top quality dining and amusement. All of this could be yours by staying in one of Bali villas situated in Ubud.
